Chaffee Repeats as All-American
Salzer Finishes Strong at Nationals

Friday, June 09, 2006

Clint Chaffee (Candor HS/Candor) became the first TC3 golfer to ever repeat as an all-American, finishing tied for sixth at the NJCAA national championship tournament. Chaffee finished the four-day tournament with a score of 294, the exact same number he finished with in last year when he also finished sixth. TC3's J.T. Salzer (Odessa-Montour HS/Odessa) finished the tournament with his best round, a 78, to finish at 320. Salzer ended play tied for 60th out of the 104 participants.

Chaffee started the final day of the tournament in fourth place, but finished with a 77. After playing the first six holes in one under par, a stretch of three-straight bogies to end the front nine left him at two over at the turn. Hard work and determination on the back nine let Chaffee earn all-American honors for the second straight year, despite not having played his best golf.

Salzer also played his first nine at two-over par on Friday. His roller coaster back nine started bogie-birdie-bogie-double bogie before settling into a rhythm with pars on three of his final four holes. With his appearance at the nationals, Salzer became just the fourth TC3 golfer ever to qualify for the national tournament twice.

The tournament was full of record-setting performances. Individual champion Mike Colosi of Monroe Community College finished with a 284, beating the old record by four strokes. Runner-up Brent Davis of Montgomery College-Rockville (AL), also beat the old record, finishing at 287. Monroe Community College won the team competition with a record score of 1168, a staggering 42 strokes better than the old standard of 1210. The second and third place teams, Louisburg College (NC) at 1194 and Central Lakes College (MN) at 1206, also broke the old record.

The tournament was hosted by Jamestown Community College and the Chautauqua Golf Course in Chautauqua, New York.

Chaffee Fourth Heading Into Final Day at Nationals

Thursday, June 08, 2006

Another round of even-par golf has TC3 sophomore Clint Chaffee (Candor HS/Candor) alone in fourth place heading into the final round at the NJCAA national championship tournament. Chaffee's 72 on Thursday leaves him at one-over par 217 for the tournament after three days. TC3's J.T. Salzer (Odessa-Montour HS/Odessa) posted an 81 to move to 242. Salzer is tied for 63rd out of the 104 participants. The four-day tournament concludes Friday.

Heading into Thursday's action, Chaffee stood tied for fourth and two strokes off the pace. Mike Colosi of Monroe Community College, who shared the lead at the tournament halfway point, took the lead on his own Thursday with a 69. He stands at 212, one stroke ahead of defending national champion Brent Davis of Montgomery College-Rockville (AL). Broome Community College's Tom Hackett is in third at 215.

The tournament is being hosted by Jamestown Community College and the Chautauqua Golf Course in Chautauqua, New York. Monroe Community College has pulled away in the team competition with a score of 876. Louisburg College (NC) is in second at 900.

Chaffee Just Two Strokes Back at Midpoint

Wednesday, June 07, 2006

An even-par round of 72 on Wednesday has TC3 sophomore Clint Chaffee (Candor HS/Candor) just two strokes back of the leaders at the halfway point of the NJCAA national championship tournament. Chaffee followed his opening round 73 to post a score of 145 at the mid-point. TC3's J.T. Salzer (Odessa-Montour HS/Odessa) posted a 79 to go with his opening round of 82 to stand at 160. Salzer is tied for 67th out of the 104 participants.

After an opening round that saw just two golfers break par, five managed to come in with under-par scores on Wednesday. Despite the increase in below-par scores, several leaders suffered. Chaffee, who was tied for seventh after the first day, now is tied for fourth as both golfers who carded below par scores on day one suffered on Wednesday. One dropped to eighth place with a 78 while the other struggled with an 88, dropping to 49th.

The tournament is being hosted by Jamestown Community College and the Chautauqua Golf Course in Chautauqua, New York. Monroe Community College is leading the team competition with a score of 589. Louisburg College (NC) is in second at 600.
