The two-day NJCAA Region III golf championship came to a dramatic finish Tuesday afternoon, as a one-hole playoff including 10 golfers was needed to determine both the team and individual titles.
At the end of the scheduled 36 holes, SUNY Cobleskill and Jamestown Community College were deadlocked for the team title and TC3's Adam Moore (Ithaca/Ithaca) was in a three-way tie for medallist honors. With the rain falling and sunlight fading, Moore, Brad Myatt of Mohawk Valley Community College, and Todd Czepiel of SUNY Cobleskill and the entire Cobleskill and Jamestown teams all took part in a sudden-death playoff. It took jut one hole to decide the champions, as Cobleskill's team score topped Jamestown and Czepiel's par was good enough to claim the individual title.
The playoff was the result of a great effort by Moore, who carded the best round of the day. His 76 on a rainy and windy day forced the playoff and guaranteed him an all-region finish and a spot in the NJCAA national championship next month. Teammate Scott Comfort (Cortland/Cortland) finished 11th overall, also good for all-region honors and an invitation to the national tournament.
The regional tournament was held at Cornell University's Robert Trent Jones Golf Course. TC3 hosted the event. The national tournament will be held the first week in June at the Chautauqua Country Club in Chautauqua, New York.

Broome Community College won the team title by six strokes over Adirondack Community College. TC3 was a shot back in third place.
Comfort, who was playing his home course, fired a front-nine 33 to take the lead at the break. His back-nine 35 was one stroke off the tournament-best score posted by teammate Adam Moore (Ithaca/Ithaca), who used his strong finish to earn a third place finish. Ryan Pedersen (Homer/Homer) posted his best round of the year with an 85 while Mike Beckerman (Hornell/Hornell) carded an 86 to round out TC3's team score.

TC3 golfer Adam Moore (Ithaca/Ithaca) captured medallist honors at the Mohawk Valley Community College tournament Monday, April 21. The sophomore fired a 4-over par 76 to edge all-American Brad Myatt. Myatt, a sophomore at Mohawk Valley who finished eighth in the nation last year, shot a 77 on his home course for second place. As a team TC3 finished 9th out of 11 teams. The Panthers were golfing shorthanded because team member Adam Sutton missed the tournament to attend a banquet with the SUNY Chancellor in Albany where he was honored with a Chancellor's Award for Student Excellence.
