Shippos and Triana Qualify for Nationals

Tompkins Cortland Community College Golf

Tompkins Cortland Community College golfers Collyn Shippos (Ithaca H.S./Ithaca) and Antonio Triana (New Roots Charter School/Cortland) qualified for the NJCAA National Championship Tournament by posting top-15 finishes at the Region III Championship Tournament Tuesday at the Robert Trent Jones Golf Course at Cornell University. As a team, Tompkins Cortland finished in sixth place out of eight teams, posting a two-day total of 692. Jamestown won the tournament with a team score of 644. Monroe was second with a 647. Shippos followed up his Monday score of 84 with a 77 on Tuesday, good for a 161 and a sixth-place finish and all-region honors. Triana went 85 and 81 for 166, tying for 15th place and joining Shippos in qualifying for the national tournament in Chautauqua in June.

Jack Myers (Lansing H.S./Lansing) had an 86 and 88 for a 174, two strokes out of qualifying for nationals. Andrew Holcomb (Hamilton H.S./Hamilton) rounded out the team scoring with a 95 and 96 for a total score of 191.

Coaches–Men's Golf

Mick McDaniel

Head Coach

Mick McDanielCoach McDaniel returned to the course for the 2014-15 year, bringing along some strong credentials. He previously coached TC3 for more than a decade, putting together one of the most impressive runs of success of any TC3 team in any sport. During a four year span, TC3 won two Region III titles, never finished worse than third in the Region and had two top-seven finishes at nationals. He coached an individual national champion, a two-time All-American, three MSAC individual champions, and dozens of all-region and all-MSAC performers. Coach McDaniel has coached men and women golfers, including TC3's first woman golfer to qualify for the national tournament, by working with each golfer on all facets of the game. His knowledge, experience, and coaching style translates to a positive experience for all his student athletes.

Mark Ewing

Assistant Coach

Mark EwingCoach Ewing is in his second year with the Panthers, bringing years of experience as a player and coach to the program. Prior to joining the TC3 staff, he served as the assistant golf coach at Cazenovia College, an NCAA Division III program. A competitive golfer with a 6 handicap, Coach Ewing has worked professionally as a caddy on both the LPGA and LPGA Symetra Tours. He brings tremendous experience and a strong desire to work with Coach McDaniel to create a supportive and successful environment for the Panther golfers.

TC3 sophomore Kyle Shaw finished the NJCAA Division III National Championship tournament Friday with a final round score of 84, giving him a four-day total of 331. His score placed him in a tie for 50th out of 77 golfers.

TC3's Kyle Shaw carded a third-round score of 81 at the NJCAA Division III National Championship tournament Thursday. The sophomore is currently tied for 47th with a three-round score of 247. The final round is Friday at the Chautauqua Golf Course.

TC3's Kyle Shaw stands tied for 48th place overall at the midpoint of the 2014 NJCAA National Championship tournament. The sophomore followed up his first round score of 77 with an 89 on day two. The four-day event continues Wednesday at the Chautauqua Golf Course in Western New York.

TC3's Kyle Shaw opened his 2014 NJCAA National Championship tournament with a strong showing, firing a 77 in the first day of the four-day event. The sophomore stands in 16th place overall after the first day of the tournament being held at the Chautauqua Golf Course in Western New York.

Tompkins Cortland Community College sophomore Kyle Shaw (Groton H.S./Groton) has quailed for the NJCAA Division III Golf National Championship for the second straight year. He fired a two-day score of 161 (80-81) at the Region III Championship, hosted by TC3 at Cornell University’s Robert Trent Jones Golf Course, good enough for fifth-place overall and an invitation to the national tournament. Teammate Mike Timmerman II (Cortland H.S./Cortland) just missed out on joining Shaw at nationals, finishing tied for the last spot and then losing out on the fourth hole of a two-person playoff. Timmerman finished the tournament with a score of 167 (91-76) to tie for 14th overall, good enough to earn all-region honors.

The top two teams plus the next five best individual scores earn a place at nationals. The team title was won by Monroe Community College with a score of 641. The individual medalist honors went to Monroe’s Kyle Bromley with a 155 (80-75).

The national tournament is June 3-7 at Chautauqua Golf Club in Chautauqua, New York.

TC3's Kyle Shaw posted a strong opening round at the NJCAA Region III championship, putting the sophomore in prime position to qualify for the national tournament for the second time. Shaw fired an opening-round score of 81, good for a tie for sixth place overall. The tournament concludes Tuesday, with the top two teams, plus the five-best individuals not on either of those teams qualifying for nationals. Shaw is currently the third best individual score not a part of one of the top two teams.

TC3's other two golfers have some ground to make up. Mike Timmerman fired a 91, roughly seven strokes out of contention. Brett Conger is two strokes farther back at 93.

The TC3 golf team took sixth place at the Genesee Invitational. The Panthers scored a 337, 32 strokes behind the winning team, Onondaga. Kyle Shaw led TC3 with a 78, the eighth-best individual score of the day. Brett Conger was next with an 80 followed by Mike Timmerman at 85. Zach Steiner rounded out the team with a 94.

The TC3 golf team hosted the annual Panther Invite at Elm Tree Golf Club Sunday, taking fifth out of ten teams. The Panthers carded a team score of 336. Jefferson won the event with a 303.

Kyle Shaw finished tied for seventh among individual scores with a 78. Brett Conger was next at 82 followed by Mike Timmerman at 86 and Zach Steiner at 90.

The TC3 Panthers took sixth place at SUNY Broome Invitational Saturday, firing a team score of 345. Jefferson won the event with a score of 311.

Brett Conger was TC3's top scorer, tying for seventh overall with a 78. Kyle Shaw and Mike Timmerman were next with scores of 87 and 89, respectively. Connor Cramton and Zach Steiner each carded a 91.

The TC3 golf team had its strongest showing of the season so far with a fifth-place finish at the 11-team Onondaga Invite. The Panthers finished with a 336; Monroe won the event with a score of 312. The event also served as the Mid-State Athletic Conference championship: TC3 finished third in the MSAC standings.

TC3 was led by Kyle Shaw, who earned all-conference honors with a score of 81. Brett Conger was a stroke back at 82, Mike Timmerman followed with an 85, and Thomas Lange had an 88.

The TC3 golf team finished in ninth place at the Nicholas J. DeSocio Memorial Invite, hosted by Cayuga Community College Friday at Highland Park Golf Club in Auburn. The Panthers fired a team score of 363. Monroe won the event with a 304.

TC3 was led by Brett Conger at 83, Kyle Shaw at 88, and Thomas Lange at 89.

The TC3 golf team continued its season-opening road trip Saturday by taking part in the Niagara County Community College Invitational. The Panthers carded a team total of 359 to place fifth out of six teams. Monroe won the event with a score of 318.

Sophomore Kyle Shaw led the Panthers with an 85. Mike Timmerman followed with a 90 and Connor Cramton and Tom Lange each finished at 92. Brett Conger and Connor L'Hommedieu rounded out the scoring with a 95 and 97, respectively.

Panthers Open Season at Jamestown Invite

The TC3 Panthers opened the 2014 season at the Jamestown Invite, finishing sixth with a score of 349. Genesee won the invitational with a 314.

Brett Conger led the Panthers with an 80, tied for seventh overall. Kyle Shaw followed with an 83, and Mike Timmerman fired an 88. Connor L'hommedien carded a 98, with Tom Lange next at 99, and Connor Cramton at 100.
