Organizational Meeting Friday, August 26

Anyone interested in trying our for the Panthers golf team this year should plan to attend an organizational meeting at noon on Friday, August 26 in the Dryden Mutual Insurance VIP Room on the second floor of the College's athletics facility. Coaches will be on hand to discuss requirements for participating on the intercollegiate team, both on the course and in the classroom. Fall practice and spring match schedules will be available, and students will have the opportunity to have any questions answered.

If you are interested in golfing for the Panthers but can't make the meeting on Friday, contact the athletics office and Coach McDaniel ASAP.

Student-Athletes Honored for Academic Excellence

Seven Tompkins Cortland Community College student-athletes have been honored with a National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Academic Student-Athlete Award. Brendan Griffiths (Niskayuna H.S./Niskayuna), Kayla Kelsey (Cortland H.S./Cortland), Victoria Mattarell (Union-Endicott H.S./Endicott), Matthew Socola (Haverling H.S./Bath), Callie Stillman (Odessa-Montour H.S./Montour Falls), Antonio Triana (New Roots H.S./Cortland), and Justmil Villanueva (A. Phillip Randolph H.S./Washington Heights) were recognized for their excellence in the classroom.

Socola and Villanueva each received a Superior Academic Achievement Award, which goes to students with a GPA between 3.80 and 3.99. Socola was a member of the baseball team while Villanueva played basketball for the Panthers.

Kelsey, Griffiths, Stillman, and Triana each earned an Exemplary Academic Achievement Award, which goes to students with a GPA between 3.60 and 3.79. Kelsey was a part of the softball team, Griffiths and Stillman played soccer, and Triana was a golfer.

The seven student-athletes represent the most Tompkins Cortland has ever had honored by the NJCAA in a single academic year.

Coaches–Men's Golf

Mick McDaniel

Head Coach

Mick McDanielCoach McDaniel returned to the course for the 2014-15 year, bringing along some strong credentials. He previously coached Tompkins Cortland for more than a decade, putting together one of the most impressive runs of success of any Tompkins Cortland team in any sport. During a four year span, the Panthers won two Region III titles, never finished worse than third in the Region and had two top-seven finishes at nationals. He coached an individual national champion, a two-time All-American, three MSAC individual champions, and dozens of all-region and all-MSAC performers. Coach McDaniel has coached men and women golfers, including the College's first woman golfer to qualify for the national tournament, by working with each golfer on all facets of the game. His knowledge, experience, and coaching style translates to a positive experience for all his student athletes.

Patrick Collins

Assistant Coach

Coach Collins comes to Tompkins Cortland after spending seven years as the head golf coach at SUNY Broome. During his time with the Hornets he coached several regional and national qualifiers while creating one of the most consistent programs in the region. Having led a successful program, he brings to the Panthers an understanding of the game and what it takes to be successful on the regional and national level.

Coach Collins also spent eight years as head coach of the ice hockey team at SUNY Broome, earning Region III Coach of the Year honors three times. He remains a USA Hockey certified instructor and serves as head coach of the ice hockey team at Union-Endicott.

Highlights–2014 Men's Golf

Panthers Card 359 at Niagara

Saturday, April 12, 2014

The TC3 golf team continued its season-opening road trip Saturday by taking part in the Niagara County Community College Invitational. The Panthers carded a team total of 359 to place fifth out of six teams. Monroe won the event with a score of 318.

Sophomore Kyle Shaw led the Panthers with an 85. Mike Timmerman followed with a 90 and Connor Cramton and Tom Lange each finished at 92. Brett Conger and Connor L'Hommedieu rounded out the scoring with a 95 and 97, respectively.
