Policay Named Region III Athlete of the Week
May 1, 2013
Tompkins Cortland Community College softball player Taylor Policay (Lansing H.S./Lansing) has been recognized for her outstanding play. The freshman was named the NJCAA Region III co-Athlete of the Week. She shares honor with Mary Lenhart, a track and field athlete from Herkimer County Community College. Region III consists of 26 schools with four sports for women in the spring.
Policay earned the honor with a huge week. The freshman caught fire at the plate while to helping the Panthers go 6-2. She hit five home runs in a span of five games, including two different two-homer games. She is just the second Tompkins Cortland softball player ever to have two games of multiple home runs, equaling a standard set by Mackenzie Sherlock last year. For the entire week, Policay went a combined 10-for-24 with 18 RBI to raise her batting average to .284 and her slugging percentage to .518. She also played error-less in the field at first base, raising her season-long fielding percentage to .984.
