Culinary Arts Students Donate Soup to Charity Event

March 31, 2017

Students in the Tompkins Cortland Community College’s Culinary Arts program are putting what they have learned to good use. Members of the Food Service and Preparation I class are making and donating five gallons of soup for the “Empty Bowls” fundraiser on April 1. The event, which raises money for the Newfield Kitchen Cupboard, is presented by the Newfield High School Arts Club in partnership with the Newfield High School Interact Club. The soup dinner starts at 6 p.m. in the Newfield High School café.

Tompkins Cortland students will make New England Clam Chowder for the event. Culinary Arts Program Chair Brian Kalata says he was happy to get his class involved. “Our motto is ‘Come Taste What We Teach’ and our involvement in this event allows students to take learned skills and prepare food in support of a worthy cause,” said Kalata. “Our Culinary Arts students are proud to participate in such an inspiring community driven event and plan to participate in similar events through the remainder of the school year.”
