Faculty Member Chosen for Prestigious Program
December 23, 2015
Tompkins Cortland Community College Associate Professor Darlene Gold has been invited to a prestigious international literary program. The co-chair of the College’s creative writing degree program was selected to participate in the 13th annual Under the Volcano literary program in Tepoztlan, Mexico January 14-24, 2016. Gold was one of just ten selected from around the world to participate in the memoir master writing class. In addition to the United States, participants come from Mexico, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland, Wales, Hungary, Puerto Rico, and Switzerland.
Gold says the work she will be doing in Mexico will have a direct relationship to the classes she teaches, including Introduction to Creative Nonfiction and Writer’s Workshop. “This is truly an honor,” said Gold, noting she will be joining a group of writers from different genres that bring a wealth of professional expertise.
In addition to daily three-hour master classes, the program includes literary readings by the faculty members as well as opportunities for participants to trade know-how in such aspects of literary life as editing, finding an agent, and pitching stories to magazines.
