New Human Services Degree Approved by Trustees

The Tompkins Cortland Community College Board of Trustees has approved a new Human Services degree program (A.S.). It has been sent to SUNY and the New York State Education department for final approval. The plan is to begin enrolling students for the fall 2015 semester.
Human Services (A.S.)
The Human Services Associate in Science (A.S.) degree program is designed for students who plan to transfer on for a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) in Human Service or Social Work or a Bachelor of Social Work (B.S.W.)
Students in the program will complete a solid foundation in SUNY General Education requirements while also having opportunities for elective coursework in alcohol/substance abuse counseling, criminal justice, early childhood education, mental health, and the social sciences. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in one semester of field instruction to prepare for continuing education and future employment.
Transfer OpportunitiesSeveral local and regional schools offer B.S. or B.S.W. programs, including SUNY Cortland (B.S. Human Services); Empire State College (B.S. Community and Human Services); Keuka College (B.S. Social Work); Syracuse University (B.S. Social Work); and Marywood University (B.S.W.). Other SUNY schools include SUNY Albany (B.S. Social Welfare); Buffalo State (B.S. Social Work); SUNY Fredonia (B.S. Social Work); SUNY Brockport (B.S. Social Work); SUNY Plattsburgh (B.S. Social Work); and SUNY Stony Brook (B.S. Social Welfare).
